For v1.05 the Arulcan environment becomes a major strategic and tactical factor to consider. When you plan an expedition into the desert you had better bring a lot of water with you. One canteen won't be enough. I have made water available in more sectors, and in sectors where water was already available I put more water (canteens -- look in refrigerators). Anywhere there are eole living is now a lace where you can fill your canteens ("CTRL+." in the Tactical Screen). Likewise, when you traverse heavily wooded sectors do not expect  the usual radio support. On the flip side, you will have further radio range in mountainous sectors. Swamps will now cost more energy to perform all actions. All the different terrain types, every one of them, now have environmental effects -- some good, some bad. Some terrain types will also affect Morale. The Arulcan environment is not as ordinary as it used to be.

If you plan ahead it can be a tactical advantage against the Arulcan Army. If you ignore environmental considerations it will be a decided tactical disadvantage for your Mercs.

Do not ignore the environment.
